The UK Bluefin Tuna Association are a campaign group comprised of anglers, charter skippers and various sea angling organisations that have successfully campaigned for and delivered the highly successful CHART Bluefin Tag and release programmes in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Our website contains a range of articles explaining these opportunities, as well as information of the physiology, history, and other aspects of this iconic king of the fishes.
Bluefin tuna are back, let’s give them a future.
The Club founded in 1979 is the premier club in the UK for anglers targeting a range of the most sporting gamefish in the world. Our members - currently just over 100 - seek out the most challenging angling opportunities available, from the furthest flung corners of the globe to at home here in the UK and Europe, in both salt and freshwater. And of course our very ‘own’ Bluefin Tuna fit into that category.
At the heart of the Club’s ethos is our belief in, and commitment to sustainable sporting fisheries, supporting local communities in what are often underdeveloped, fragile environments.
We pursue a Catch and Release policy with regard to vulnerable species, and support scientific tagging programs where they can be of benefit to our knowledge of the species.
We welcome new members from all backgrounds and walks of life from the UK and even elsewhere. Our quarry do not discriminate against their pursuers, and our Club echoes that in its approach to membership.
Experience is also not an obstacle. Whether an experienced ‘globe trotting’ Big Game angler or a newcomer to our sport, all are welcome.
Supplementing smaller, individually organised small group trips the Club additionally organises a major overseas one annually. This year it will be to Mexico primarily targeting Striped Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna. But trips are also organised in this country, both sea and fly fishing for Trout. And, for those interested in tournament fishing, we maintain a close association with the Angling Trust, and it is our members who comprise the bulk of the England Big Game team who compete internationally.
Perhaps, often understated in this era of ‘instant armchair experts’ on social media, the Club through its membership offers that wealth of expert, unbiased knowledge. So somewhere amongst our membership will be someone who’s fished there before, or targeted that specific species. Above all we aim to de-mystify and facilitate access to what at times can, wrongly be seen as an elitist pursuit.
Huntress and Home is a lifestyle and events brand that likes to make good things happen.
Its founder has a professional background in events, media, strategic communications, food culture education and journalism and a personal background in everything it takes to ‘live like a mammal in a modern world’ - angling, shooting, horse training and riding, sailing, spearfishing, foraging, BBQ, building and restoration and artisan food.
We like to build community and positive culture change in everything we do.
